What is Speech Therapy?

Heather Lazarides, MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, CKTP+, describes the scope of speech therapy from swallowing and voice disorders to communication deficits and feeding issues.

What is your role in Speech Therapy?

I’m a speech pathologist. A lot of people get confused on what exactly we do in the hospital. In a medical setting, speech pathologists generally focus most on swallowing disorders. However, we can treat all ages for voice disorders, actual communication deficits, and feeding issues. We are a very well-rounded profession.
